Happy (early) 4th of July! We are enjoying the first day of our three day weekend. We ran a ton of errands this morning, so now we can get some things done at home and spend the rest of the weekend with family and friends. We are making progress on our paperwork. I think the only thing we have left for our homestudy is our medical reports which will be done in the next 10 days or so. We went yesterday to be fingerprinted for our FBI background check. What a memorable experience! There was a LOT of misunderstanding on the part of the sheriff's office, and they quoted us the wrong price twice. That wouldn't normally be a big deal, but we had to pay with a money order, so it meant two trips to the post office and back to the courthouse. Even after the second trip, apparently we still weren't on the same page, so they ended up doing our fingerprints for free! That of course meant a THIRD trip to the post office to cancel our money orders again, but it saved us $80!! It took me a few hours to get over how ridiculous the whole thing was, and to realize that I had prayed before we left and even in the middle of it all for God to provide what we needed and to work out all the details. I think so many times I'm looking for Him to answer my prayers in a certain way, and when it doesn't look the way I think it's going to, it takes me awhile to recognize His hand. It is so silly of me to ask Him to provide everything we need for this process, and then to complain when He tries to save us $80!
Today we took our fingerprints, new money orders, and other paperwork to be FedExed to the FBI. This part has been stressing me out a little more than the others because there were so many details to it....I just knew I was going to forget something or do something wrong. Even the actual shipping process was painstakingly detailed, so I wasn't really looking forward to sorting through all of that first thing this morning. We headed to FedEx Office at the mall, and as we were waiting to be helped I heard one of the employees declare....quite loudly! :)......to another customer that he was a Christian. Sure enough, he was the first person available to help us, so we explained to him why we were there and every little thing that had to be included with our package. He was SO helpful and before it was over he had prayed for our package to get where it needed to go as quickly as possible and then promised to continue praying for us! It has been so cool to see the people, songs, sermons, and circumstances that God has put in our paths to encourage us.
Next week is a busy week for me. I have my medical testing and individual homestudy interview. Michael's will be the following week. For now, we are very thankful for this holiday weekend to spend with our kids and extended family. We hope that you all enjoy this weekend and the time spent with family and friends. We Are.....ADOPTING!
In my last post, I mentioned that we felt like God was calling us to "something". :) We're ready now to give a little more detail about that something. Over the past three years, we have been praying about adding to our family. It has been a long, and sometimes very difficult process, but we feel very strongly that God has called us to adopt. We applied to Holt International and we were accepted into their Ethiopia program on April 29. We have been filling out paperwork.....a LOT of paperwork, and we will have our first visit from the Home Study social worker in the next couple of weeks. At this time, we are requesting two siblings, ages 1-3 years, but that will all have to be approved....so we'll see what happens. We are very excited. We can't wait to see how God will move through this process. We will be documenting our journey here and on Facebook, so that even those of you who live far away can be a part of this next chapter in our lives! The support already shown to us has been unbelievable.....it has just confirmed again that HE has been and will continue to prepare us For Such a Time as This.Tuesday, May 5, 2009
It's a Miracle....I'm Blogging!
I'm sitting here looking at my blog, wondering how in the world it has been six months since I've done this. It has been a long, crazy, wonderful (in a nightmare-ish, weird sort of way), gone in a blink of an eye six months. October and November were full of more doctor's appointments for me.....all to conclude that nobody knows what is wrong! :) I apparently make too many platelets, but no one can seem to figure out why. By November, I was DONE with doctors, and so for now, I am being monitored 4 times a year by my hematologist, and we'll just wait and see if anything else shows up. Easy enough!!
The first week of January, we placed a contract on a house......FINALLY! We had been looking for a year and a half....praying that when it was the right house, and the right time, God would let us know. Waiting is not my forte' as many of you know, so a year of waiting.....for my health issues AND for a house.....well, let's just say, there were days that it was not pretty. But, through it all, God was so faithful and He gave us the promise that He was getting us ready for SOMETHING. At the time, the picture of the something was a little fuzzy....all we really knew was that He was preparing us. That was even how the idea of this blog was born...."For Such A Time As This".......we were waiting for Him to make the picture clearer in His time. So, we placed the contract, it was accepted, and then we waited AGAIN! :) Ten weeks later, we finally closed! Woohooooo!
We've been in for about 6 weeks, and it is definitely starting to feel like home. We're having our first company (Michael's parents) at the end of the week, so we've been busy painting and unpacking. Now that we're here the picture of what God is doing is becoming clearer and clearer. We definitely feel like He has called us and that He has provided this amazing home for a reason. We are praying, and following in the way that He is leading. We would love to keep you updated on our journey (through this blog and also on Facebook)....we'll let you know when details are coming together. For now, we just wanted to let you know that we are home and we believe that it is definitely For Such A Time As This!
